Welcome to our school!
March 2010 message from Carmen Mackay, Principal
The second term has gone by so quickly! Teachers and students continued to work hard and are getting ready to move forward with units of study for the third and final term.
This term, there will not be a scheduled Professional Activity Day for term two parent-teacher interviews. Teachers will make arrangements with parents if they have concerns that they would like to discuss. As always, teachers are available to discuss concerns or questions you may have at any time. Please contact your child’s teacher by phoning the school, or by putting a note in the student agenda if you would like to speak with them about anything at this time.
We encourage you to take some time with your child to review their term two report card and achievements. Discussing their results and helping them establish goals for the next term is beneficial to all. The third page of the report card is intended for this purpose and we look forward to seeing this page completed and returned to the school. It is helpful as we continue to work with your children to help them achieve their learning goals.
Cross Boundry Transfer
Once again, Devonshire’s student population continues to grow, restricting the number of students that can be accepted from outside of our area. Devonshire has a zero cap, which means that zero applications could be approved for cross boundary transfers this year.
MS READ-A-THON
Congratulations Devonshire! We raised approximately $3300 this year for the MS Society during our MS Read-A-Thon. The students read books, magazines and newspapers to help support research and funds for people with Multiple Sclerosis. Thank you for your generous contributions and support.
TOONIE TUESDAY
On Tuesday, February 3rd, Devonshire students brought a toonie to support others in the “Students Helping Students” campaign. A total of $77.00 was donated for this special day.

New bike racks for Devonshire's primary yard!
Thanks to parent Kathleen Wilker, our school has been awarded a Green Apple School Program grant of $1,000 for our green idea of adding new bike racks to encourage more children (and parents) to cycle to school.
The Green Apple School Program is an initiative of the Metro chain of grocery stores, and was created to encourage conservation and healthy living. Kathleen wrote to the program to propose that bike racks at Devonshire would be a good "Idea today...to keep the waste away", and the Green Apple folks agreed.
We look forward to using our new bike racks in the spring!
VOLLEYBALL
Congratulations to our boys’ and girls’ Devonshire Dragon volleyball teams. Both teams played well and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship during their respective tournaments. Both our teams finished in third place which means, had we been going for an Olympic Medal, both would have been on the podium for the Bronze Medal. We are proud of you and thank you for a great season and a job well done. Special thanks to our coaches for all the time and effort put forth for our students. Merci, Mme Sylvie Duquette and Mrs. Sorokan.
